Opal Basil features glossy, deep purple leaves with random areas of green on dark red stems. Slightly more intense in flavor than green basil, Opal is otherwise virtually interchangeable with green in recipes. The leaves are flat and open, and their unmistakable basil aroma is round and floral. Opal Basil makes an excellent alternative for a vibrant pesto, or scatter over an heirloom tomato tart fresh from the oven.
