Black Mission Figs were originally brought to California in the late 18th century by Spanish missionaries, hence the name. Their skin is aubergine to black in color, with a lush pink flesh that exhibits a profound earthy sweetness. Figs have been cultivated for thousands of years, and likely originated in the fertile soils of ancient Arabia. Black Mission Figs are superb with blue cheese, walnuts and honey, grilled and stuffed with goat cheese, or as a sweet counterpoint to poultry and game.
